One of 12 major watersheds of the Minnesota River Basin, the Watonwan River Watershed covers 878 square miles in south-central Minnesota.

Streams of the Upper St. Croix Watershed are among the most biologically intact, healthy, and resilient of watersheds in Minnesota.

The MPCA administers programs that are governed by 45 chapters of rules. The MPCA periodically conducts a “housekeeping” rulemaking to make minor corrections and clarifications to the rules or to repeal rules that have become obsolete.

The Pomme de Terre River begins cool and clear in Otter Tail County, bordered by wooded hills and grassy meadows. It flows south through several lakes; as the river nears its mouth, it is bordered by eroding banks, becoming increasingly muddy before discharging into the Minnesota River at Marsh Lake.

The MPCA has announced eight grant recipients that will receive a total of over $1 million in grants for projects focused on waste reduction and reuse. These statewide efforts will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants, reduce the demand for resources, and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.

Eight grant recipients will receive $302,173 for projects that will make the state’s soil healthier and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. All are focused on composting organic waste in multi-resident housing.

The Two Rivers Watershed is part of the Red River Basin in northwestern Minnesota. Two Rivers actually consists of three branches: the North, Middle, and South Branch.

This Winnebago River consists of a stream and lake system in southern Minnesota that flows into Iowa. The water resources here face several water quality challenges, including high nutrient and bacteria levels.

The North Fork Crow River Watershed covers 949,107 acres.

Approximately $995,000 was available to develop, administer, and fund a financial assistance program for electric-powered landscaping and snow removal equipment. The goal of this grant is to reduce emissions and ground-level exposure to air pollution in Environmental Justice areas.
