This project addresses one dissolved oxygen (DO) impairment from County Ditch (CD) #44 to Lake Betsy in the Upper Clearwater River Watershed located in the Upper Mississippi River Basin of Minnesota.
The Clearwater River Watershed District (CRWD), in cooperation with Wenck Associates, Inc., and the MPCA completed this draft TMDL study in 2009. It will be submitted to the EPA for final approval following the public comment period that will begin in July of 2010. MPCA has approved the watershed wide Implementation Plan making the CRWD eligible to apply for federal 319 funds and state CWLA funds that can be used for restoration projects and BMPs. Violations of the DO standard were found to occur downstream of the Kingston Wetland during summer low flow conditions. Some options being considered to improve DO levels in this reach are:
- dredging the wetland
- physical stream channel improvements
- adding an aeration system
