Xcel Energy notified the state duty officer that a change in water temperature related to a temporary plant shutdown led to a fish kill near its Monticello nuclear power plant.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Minnesota Department of Health are encouraged that Xcel Energy is taking immediate action to address the recurring issue of water containing tritium leaking from the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant.
New reports by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency detail impairments affecting recreation, and fish and aquatic insect communities in the Cottonwood River Watershed in southwestern Minnesota. The reports recommend building upon many actions local groups have already taken to address water quality in the watershed.
