Greater Minnesota recycling and composting grants

Picking up recyclables at curbsideGrant funds to support projects that help reduce the amount of recyclable materials entering landfills by helping communities in Greater Minnesota establish best practices to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of local programs for reuse, recycling, or composting.

The grant program targets counties, cities, townships, and federally recognized tribes in Minnesota located outside the Twin Cities seven-county Metropolitan Area.

Total funding of the most recent round was approximately $1 million.

Background

The 2021 Minnesota Legislature allocated funding for recycling and composting grants in Greater Minnesota under Minn. Stat. § 115A.565 through June 30, 2025. For purposes of this RFP, recycling is defined as the process of collecting and preparing recyclable materials and reusing the materials in their original form or using them in manufacturing processes that do not cause the destruction of recyclable materials in a manner that precludes further use. (Minn. Stat. § 115A.03)

Funds are for projects that focus on best practices for recycling or composting collection systems.
