About me. I grew up near the Mississippi River in St. Paul. Between visiting the river and playing in my own backyard, I developed an affinity for the outdoors at a young age. This prompted me to choose Environmental Studies as my major at the University of Minnesota - Morris, and I graduated in the spring of 2017. I enjoy exploring national and state parks, and some of my favorite outdoor activities include hiking and kayaking.
About my service. I am serving with the city of Lakeville as an Urban Forestry member. The overarching topics of my projects are maintaining and improving forest health, providing community education and outreach, and preparing for the effects of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Specific examples of my responsibilities include adding to the City’s tree inventory, assisting with events like the tree sale, and going on tree inspections.
Why I serve. I wanted to be a part of the Minnesota GreenCorps for several reasons. After college, I was unsure of which direction I wanted to take career-wise in the environmental field. Being a member would give me experience in a certain environmental topic, the opportunity to work with a community on the issues they face, and a way to meet other people interested in the environment.
My favorite place to visit in Minnesota. The area surrounding Moose Lake is one of my favorite places to visit. The town also has a coffee shop with the best spiced-chai tea latte!
