Closed: Wastewater pond optimization implementation capital grant

MPCA sought applications for funds to repair slide gates, valves, control structures, and other components that regulate the flow into and out of wastewater ponds, and prevent short circuiting of the pond system.

Application deadline was May 15, 2023.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are municipalities and tribes with populations under 5,000 people and have participated in the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF)-funded Wastewater Pond Optimization Implementation program.

Eligible projects include the acquisition of components that will achieve proper control of wastewater in wastewater ponds, and will cover non-construction costs, like risers, gates, and valves, and associated technical or design assistance.

Ineligible projects include those unrelated to management and control of wastewater stabilization ponds, and projects that have already achieved National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit compliance.

Available funds

Approximately $200,000 in funding is available.

  • Maximum award is $25,000 per project.
  • Match requirement. Match of at least 25% of the grant request is required. This requirement can include in-kind contribution, as well as cash match.

Grant funding for eligible costs will be paid upon completion of the approved project with approved invoices.

More information

Minnesota Technical Assistance Program, with consultation from Minnesota Rural Water Association and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, will administer a grant to fund the replacement of control structure assets within municipal wastewater pond systems. This grant exists as an extension of the Wastewater Pond Optimization Implementation project, funded through the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, with the goal of correcting control deficiencies within wastewater treatment pond systems.
