We Are Water MN (Big Stone Lake)

A traveling exhibit and community engagement initiative that explores the science, history, story, culture, and relationships of water in Minnesota. Hosted locally by Big Stone Arts Council

  • Engage with stories from people in this watershed about the role water plays in their work, play, and day-to-day life.
  • Interact with exhibits about what makes this watershed unique and learn about ways people are addressing challenges to keep water healthy in Minnesota.
  • Attend events to help you discover new ways to take action to protect water in your community. 

Exhibit hours:

  • Monday-Friday, 3:30-5:30 p.m.
  • Saturday (March 22, 29, April 5, 12), 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Spring Expo hours: March 15 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.) and March 16 (noon-4 p.m.)

Opening event: March 15, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Join us at the Spring Expo on March 15 to kick off We Are Water in Ortonville. This event will feature a Water Bar, nitrate well water testing clinic, information and lead-free tackle from Get the Lead Out, docent tours of the exhibit, and informational booths hosted by various local organizations.

We Are Water MN is led by the Minnesota Humanities Center in partnership with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency; the Minnesota Historical Society; the Board of Water and Soil Resources; the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, and Department of Natural Resources; and University of Minnesota Extension.

Funded in part with money from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Clean Water, Land, & Legacy Fund that was created with the vote of the people of Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2008.
