The MPCA will host a public informational meeting to discuss the draft wastewater permit for the U.S. Steel Minntac facility’s tailings basin.
The draft industrial wastewater permit is available for public comment through Oct. 12, 2026.
The purpose of this meeting is to provide information about:
- the draft Minntac tailings basin permit
- how to submit a public comment on the draft permit
- provide responses to questions from attendees
Agenda
- 5:30 p.m. – Doors open
- 6 p.m. – Welcome and presentation from MPCA staff
- 6:30 p.m. – Question and answer session with MPCA staff. Audience members will be invited to ask questions about the permit.
- 7:30 p.m. – End of meeting
The MPCA will try to hear from as many attendees as possible during the Q&A portion of the meeting. To do so, each speaker will have 90 seconds to ask a question.
Attendees can also submit written comments on the permit online until Oct. 12.
