Dem-Con Landfill, LLC proposes to construct of a new municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill at its environmental campus near Shakopee. It proposes to convert 2.2 million cubic yards covering an approximately 81-acre fill area of its permitted construction and demolition landfill into a new municipal solid waste landfill that will accept waste from the Twin Cities metro area and Nicollet, Le Sueur, and Sibley counties.
The MPCA will host a public meeting for community members to discuss Dem-Con’s proposed MSW landfill and its required environmental review process in full detail. The environmental review process will begin with the scoping environmental assessment worksheet (SEAW) and draft scoping decision document (DSDD) to inform what is going to be studied in the project’s environmental impact statement (EIS). Both of these documents are currently open for public comment through July 24. There will be an open house and brief presentation followed by time for questions and answers with representatives from both the MPCA and Dem-Con.
