The federal Climate Pollution Reduction Grants program provides grants to states, tribes, and local governments to develop and implement plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollution. The Inflation Reduction Act includes an investment of $5 billion to support efforts by these groups to develop and implement strong, local greenhouse gas reduction strategies. This two-stage grant program provides funding of $250 million for noncompetitive planning grants, and $4.6 billion for competitive implementation grants.
The EPA has indicated that it will be launching the planning grants soon, possibly in March.
Organizations eligible to apply for planning grants are states, air pollution control agencies, municipalities, Tribes, and groups of such organizations.
