Gonvick Wastewater Treatment Facility is renewing the permit for its wastewater treatment facility, which discharges to the Lost River in the Clearwater River watershed. The facility is designed to treat an average wet weather flow of 0.09 million gallons per day. As part of the permit issuance, the permittee has applied for a variance from the Class 2B total chloride water quality standard. A variance may be granted when meeting the standard is not feasible, and there is currently no feasible way to remove chloride from wastewater. The facility has satisfied the necessary conditions, and the MPCA will recommend that the EPA grant the variance after the public has provided input.
A public meeting about the variance request will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 6-7 p.m.
