Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan’s recommendations for the 2026 legislative session build on the successes of recent legislation, promote good governance, and advance the MPCA’s work to protect the environment and human health.

The Governor's capital budget recommendations prioritize drinking water protection and improving the management of construction and demolition waste. Policy recommendations include an option to expedite routine permitting for wastewater treatment facilities, requiring Tribal Nations to be notified of certain wastewater overflows, and adapting to federal changes by extending the timeline for water quality standards for certain PFAS in Minnesota. The Governor’s supplemental budget recommendations are forthcoming.

These recommendations to the Legislature will help Minnesota respond to new opportunities and challenges, keeping our state a vibrant, prosperous, and healthy place to raise a family.
