About me. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended the University of Minnesota -Twin Cities for undergrad. I graduated in the spring of 2015 with a degree in French and Global Studies with a concentration in Environment and Sustainable Development. In my spare time I enjoy walking my dog Jayjay, cooking and hiking.
About my service. I am a Living Green member with a non-profit organization in East Saint Paul called Urban Roots. Urban Roots focuses on building vibrant and healthy communities through, food, conservation and youth development. While serving Urban Roots I will be involved in numerous projects focusing on outreach and education of many environmental themes around and pertaining to conservation, gardening and cooking. Some of the projects that I am involved with are planning and participating in enrichment classes at the Twin Cities Academy, and school class visits with the conservation team at Dayton’s Bluff Elementary. Other projects include research on the Native American history of our worksites and collaborations with the Sun Ray Library.
Why I serve. Having finished school a semester early, I worked so hard to finish up that I forgot about working after. During my search I came across the Minnesota GreenCorps program and knew that firstly this would give me the opportunity to give back to the community. Secondly it will allow me to gain professional experience within the field of environmental sustainability. Finally being a Minnesota GreenCorps member will give me the opportunity to match my academic knowledge with real world experience. As the year progresses I look forward to having a meaningful impact on the youth that I serve and the East Saint Paul community as a whole.
My favorite place to visit in Minnesota. Although I graduated from the U of M I was only there for a year and a half, so I am still relatively new to the Minnesota life. As of now my favorite place is yet to be determined, which makes these next 11 months all the more exciting!
