Minnesota’s air quality, as measured by the statewide monitoring network the MPCA has operated for many years, is generally good. However, understanding small-scale differences in air pollution is important for minimizing exposure to harmful air pollutants, particularly for vulnerable communities.
MPCA is engaged in many projects studying air quality with air sensors:
- Metro area community air monitoring pilot grant
- Minneapolis community air monitoring project
- Minneapolis/Saint Paul urban air quality project
Metro community air monitoring pilot grant program
The 2023 Minnesota Legislature in HF2310 set aside funds for air monitoring projects centering on the community. Stay tuned for more information.
Minneapolis/Saint Paul urban air quality project
Air monitors sampled air quality in all Minneapolis and St. Paul ZIP codes to answer questions about hyper-local air quality. This project ran from 2019-2021.
Financial support for this project was provided by the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
