Field work notifications

Some Minnesota Pollution Control Agency remediation programs require consultants and contractors to notify the agency prior to conducting field work. At present, this is required for work being performed at Petroleum Remediation Program (PRP) and the Closed Landfill Program (CLP) sites.

PRP staff will conduct random audits of field work conducted at sites based on these notifications. The PRP will also compare reports received and the field work notifications to ensure all consultants and contractors are submitting the required notifications.

Field work notifications must be submitted at least 48 hours prior to the start of the site work. If a change in the work schedule occurs after the notification has been submitted, please submit a field work modification with the revised schedule. If the work will be cancelled you must submit a field work notification cancellation.

If any changes in the field work schedule occurs within 24 hours of the field work start time you must submit the appropriate notification (modification or cancellation). You must also call the assigned site project manager to notify them of the schedule changes.

Field work notifications at CLP sites

CLP program staff need to know when contractors are performing work at closed landfills in case nearby residents or local officials notice people on these sites and call the agency to report it. Contractors should submit a Field Work Notification 48 hours before performing the following types of work:

  • Groundwater monitoring
  • Mowing or other landscape-related activities

Submitting field work notifications requires you to set up an online service account with the MPCA. Tips for creating an account can be found on the e-Services webpage.
