Minnesota's Impaired Waters and TMDLs

Project: Minnehaha Creek Bacteria and Lake Hiawatha - Excess Nutrients (Metro)

Background

This project is located within the Minnehaha Creek watershed and addresses an E. coli listing in Minnehaha Creek and an excess nutrients listing for Lake Hiawatha.  The project is a joint effort among the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District and the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).  The USEPA is contracting with Tetra Tech, Inc., an environmental consulting firm, to develop this TMDL study. The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District is providing technical support and is leading stakeholder involvement. The draft TMDL is targeted to be completed in 2013.

The impairments in this project lie in the Mississippi River - Twin Cities watershed .
