St. Paul, Minn. — The city of Prior Lake has proposed an extension to the Stemmer Ridge Road trunk sanitary sewer, which carries wastewater to the Blue Lake Wastewater Treatment facility. The project will provide sanitary sewer service to 3,600 acres of current and future development areas in Prior Lake. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has prepared an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for the proposed extension, and is making the document available for public comment through March 4, 2015.

The EAW is meant to describe the ways in which the proposed expansion could affect air, water, land use and habitat, as well as potential community impacts such as odors, noise, dust and vehicle traffic.

The proposal calls for extending the sewer system .75 miles, from its current ending point at Stemmer Ridge Road north towards County Highway 82 (154th Street). The sewer will be constructed with 30-inch PVC pipe and concrete manholes. The project will also include the extension of a 20-inch trunk water main connecting to existing water main stubs at Stemmer Ridge Road and County Highway 82.

The public is invited to review and comment on the EAW, which is available on the MPCA’s EAW webpage. The MPCA will use the comments it receives to evaluate the potential for significant environmental effects from the project, and to decide whether a more comprehensive environmental review, an Environmental Impact Statement, is needed.

Comments must be submitted in writing by 4:30 p.m. March 4, 2015 to Kevin Kain, MPCA, 520 Lafayette Rd. N., Saint Paul, MN 55155-4194, by email to kevin.kain@state.mn.us, or by fax to 651-297-2343.
