St. Paul, Minn. — The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is inviting public comment on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for the proposed addition of an above-ground storage tank at Heartland Corn Products. The 30-day comment period will end Oct. 15, 2014.

Heartland Corn Products, a producer of fuel-grade ethanol, is located about one mile east of Winthrop, in Sibley County. The proposed two-million-gallon storage tank would be used for denatured ethanol. It would be sited within the present boundary of the Heartland Corn Products facility.

The EAW is a preliminary review of the way a proposed project could potentially affect the environment. The EAW also helps the MPCA determine whether an Environmental Impact Statement, a more in-depth environmental review, is needed.

For more information about the EAW, go to http://www.pca.state.mn.us/oxpg691. Or, a copy of the EAW may be obtained by calling Beth Tegdesch at 651-757-2100, email elizabeth.tegdesch@state.mn.us.

Comments on the proposed addition of the storage tank at Heartland Corn Products should be submitted in writing by 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 15 to Patrice Jensen, MPCA, 520 Lafayette Road N., Saint Paul, MN 55155-4194, email patrice.jensen@state.mn.us, fax 651-297-2343. Comments arriving after that time will not be considered.
