Bushmills Ethanol near Atwater is planning to increase production from 65 to 100 million gallons per year of denatured ethanol. The amount of corn processed at the plant would increase from 25 million to 38.5 million bushels per year, and water use from 216 to 225 million gallons per year.

As required by state rules, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) prepared an Environmental Assessment Worksheet on the proposal. The public may submit written comments on the Bushmills EAW until 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 8, 2017.

The expansion will include four new 730,000-gallon fermenters and several smaller above ground storage tanks.

The EAW provides basic information about how a proposed project could potentially affect the environment, and helps determine whether a more comprehensive environmental review is needed.

The worksheet for this project is available on the MPCA's Environmental Assessment Worksheet webpage. It is also available by calling Kevin Kain at 651-757-2482. Written comments may be sent via email to kevin.kain@state.mn.us, or mailed to him at the MPCA, 520 Lafayette Road N., St. Paul, MN 55155-4194. Copies of the EAW are also available at the MPCA Willmar office, 1601 E. Hwy. 12, and the Willmar Public Library, 410 5th St. SW.
