Wondering what to do with your carved pumpkins leftover from Halloween? Here are some smashing good ways to put the "green" back into your jack-o-lanterns.
Compost it in your backyard
Composting is an easy way to reduce waste while improving your yard and garden soils. When composting your pumpkins be sure to remove candles, wax, and any decorations. And, don’t compost pumpkins with paint or glitter. To learn how to compost, visit https://www.pca.state.mn.us/living-green/compost
Drop it off
Many compost drop-off sites allow you to put your pumpkins in the yard waste or offer collection events. Be sure to check with your city about drop-off events. “In general, it’s a good idea to check with the city or your hauler,” says Kayla Walsh, MPCA’s Organics and Recycling Specialist.
Check out organics recycling
Some communities offer organics recycling. Check with your city or hauler about what you can recycle. The Minnesota Composting Council lists communities collecting organics.
