Summary of 2022 data
- In 2022, 195 local governmental units (LGUs) submitted data for the report, including 86 counties, 73 cities, 32 townships, and 4 other special purpose units of government with permitting authority.
- Respondents reported a total of 636,065 SSTS across Minnesota, which treat an estimated 43.5 billion gallons of wastewater each year.
- LGUs issued 11,051 construction permits for 5,483 new systems and 5,568 replacement systems in 2022, Of the SSTS permitted in 2022, approximately 95.5% are serving residential dwellings and 3.5% are serving other establishments.
- Of the permits issued, 95.5% were for residential dwellings and 3.5% were for other establishments.
- LGUs reported 14,550 compliance inspections of existing systems.
- LGUs estimated that 82% (519,844) of SSTS in Minnesota comply with applicable rules and function properly.
