In his 35 years as a Congressman,  Oberstar says one of his proudest legislative accomplishments took place before he was elected.

Approximately 90,000 Minnesotans heat their homes with fuel oil, and they should inspect their fuel oil tanks and piping to prevent leaks and spills this winter.

Two public meetings to describe the sampling processes and possible contaminants are scheduled for Oct. 5.

The list, updated every two years, includes 3,643 total impaired waters.

"The Clean Water Act was has forever changed how we monitor and protect our water," says Commissioner John Linc Stine of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has placed the sections on the state’s impaired waters list for exceeding the water quality standard for turbidity.

Comments on the report must be sent in writing to the MPCA by Oct. 17, 2012.

The Council will make budget recommendations to the governor and the legislature in December.

Comments on the report of the Crystal Lake water quality study will be accepted through Sept. 26, 2012.

The stormwater violations occurred along 18 highway miles in Koochiching County, Minn.

Comments will be accepted until Sept. 19, 2012
