Sewage Tanks — Product Registration

Sewage tanks include the following types of tanks: Septic tanks, Trash tanks, Holding tanks, Pump tanks, Surge storage tanks, Recirculation tanks and other processing tanks. The "List of Registered SSTS Sewage Tanks," and other related information, is provided on this web page.

Tank registration

In March 2011, the MPCA completed minor changes to the sewage tank design requirements contained in Chapter 7080. These changes affect sewage tank manufacturers. For this reason, as part of the rule amendments, MPCA extended the final tank implementation date for all tank manufacturers to April 4, 2012. Another extension, to December 31, 2012, was offered to those manufacturers who were in the process of getting their tanks registered. The list of "in-process" manufacturers was deleted from the At-A-Glance listing on January 2, 2013.

Date

Sewage Tank  Standards to Meet

Notes

Up to April 3, 2012

2005, 2008 or 2011 rules

This was the time to complete the transition to the new sewage tank standards (a four-year transition).

April 4, 2012 and after

2011 rules

Sewage tanks installed in Minnesota must meet the 2011 rules at this time. The “in process” tank list no longer exists as of January 2, 2103; only tanks that are fully registered can be sold for use in Minnesota now (except for those tanks that are individually designed by a licensed Professional Engineer).

Sewage tank manufacturers can submit their 'Application for Sewage Tank Listing' (see below under 'Forms for Sewage Tanks'), along with required information, to be placed on the 'List of Registered SSTS Sewage Tanks' if the requirements for tank registration are met.
