Surface water financial assistance
Financial assistance is available from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) for surface-water related assessment and monitoring projects. The following grants are available from the MPCA:
- Surface Water Assessment Grants. Surface Water Assessment Grants (SWAG) provide local organizations and citizen volunteers with funds to gauge the health of lakes and streams. The grants provide the funds for training, equipment and lab analysis of water samples for two years. Local government units and non-profit groups recruit the volunteers (where possible) and coordinate the monitoring and sampling efforts.
- Watershed Pollutant Load Monitoring Sampling Grants. Watershed Pollutant Load Monitoring sampling grants are now available for local partners to assist with event-based monitoring (monitoring during snow melt or rain storms).
