Minnesota's Major Watershed Projects

Rainy River - Headwaters Major Watershed

The Rainy River - Headwaters watershed covers 1.6 million acres. Lakes (more than 430) cover 223,513 acres, and wetlands cover 121,876 acres. The watershed’s headwaters are in northern Cook and Lake counties; the river then flows west and northwesterly into St. Louis County and the Canadian border waters and Basswood Lake.
