TMDL Project: Yellow Medicine (South Branch) — Fecal Coliform
Background
The South Branch Yellow Medicine River was listed as impaired in 2004 for fecal coliform bacteria. Fecal coliform bacteria exceeded water quality standards set to protect swimming and other recreational uses. The TMDL report was approved by the EPA on September 30, 2004, and the implementation plan was approved by the MPCA in September 2005. Implementation is sponsored by the Yellow Medicine River Watershed District managers and is currently underway.
Map and location
The South Branch of the Yellow Medicine River is located within the Minnesota River - Yellow Medicine River watershed in the Minnesota River basin in Lincoln and Lyon counties.
