Minnesota's Impaired Waters and TMDLs

TMDL Project: Sand Creek Watershed - Multiple Impairments

Background

This project includes multiple impairments and three waterbodies: Cedar Lake, McMahon Lake, and Sand Creek. The Scott Watershed Management Organization (Scott WMO) will be developing nutrient TMDLs for Cedar and McMahon lakes, as part of a Clean Water Partnership project. Scott WMO will gather data and information for the later completion of TMDLs for a segment of Sand Creek, impaired for biota and turbidity. The draft TMDLs for the two impaired lakes is targeted to be completed in 2009.

Map and location

The Sand Creek watershed is located in the Lower Minnesota River watershed in the Minnesota River basin, in the western Twin Cities metro area.

For the location of the impaired reach on Sand Creek, see the PDF Document Lower Minnesota River Basin map.  For the location of Cedar Lake and McMahon Lake within Scott County, see the PDF Document TMDL lakes map.
