Minnesota's Impaired Waters and TMDLs

TMDL Project: Pomme de Terre River Watershed - Turbidity

Background

There is one reach in the Pomme de Terre River Watershed that is impaired for turbidity. The reach is located in the lower portion of the Pomme de Terre River from Muddy Creek to Marsh Lake. This reach was listed in 2002. The work completed within the watershed is sponsored by the Pomme de Terre Joint Powers Board. A workplan has been completed and a draft TMDL is currently under development. A draft TMDL is expected to be completed in 2009 and an implementation plan in 2010.

Map and location

The Pomme de Terre River is located in the Minnesota River Basin, in west central Minnesota.  The river originates in southern Otter Tail County and flows south to discharge into Marsh Lake in Swift County.  The watershed is located in parts of Otter Tail, Grant, Douglas, Stevens, Big Stone, and Swift counties.
