Minnesota's Impaired Waters and TMDLs
Project: Lower Cannon River TMDL — Turbidity
Background
The Lower Cannon River includes two reaches that are listed for turbidity. The Cannon River Watershed Partnership assisted in drafting the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) report. A detailed implementation plan will be developed following completion and approval of the Draft TMDL report by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Map and location
The Lower Cannon River is located in the Cannon River watershed and the Mississippi River - Winona watershed in the Lower Mississippi River Basin. The two segments included in this project extend from the Lake Byllesby Dam, near Cannon Falls, to its confluence with the Vermillion and Mississippi Rivers, near Red Wing. They include the reach between the Pine Creek and Belle Creek tributaries, and a short stretch at the Cannon’s mouth.
The two Cannon River turbidity listings included in this project can be viewed on the
Lower Mississippi and Cedar River Basins Map.
TMDL report and implementation plan
The TMDL report was approved by the U.S. EPA on July 13, 2007.
