Minnesota's Major Watershed Projects

Cannon River Major Watershed

The Cannon River watershed is located south of the Twin Cities metro area and encompasses areas of Dakota, Goodhue, Le Sueur, Steele, Rice, and Waseca Counties. The watershed drains approximately 1,460 square miles through two main channels, the Cannon and Straight Rivers, to the Mississippi at Red Wing.

Strategy development projects

In partnership with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and many local partners, the Cannon River Watershed Partnership developed the Cannon River Watershed Managemet Strategy. The strategy brings together information about the watershed's many lakes and rivers; and the existing plans and priorities of local government units and state agencies to create an overarching strategy for the entire watershed.
