Household Hazardous Waste

When certain household chemicals are not used up, they can become household hazardous waste. Many household products contain the same chemicals as strictly regulated industrial wastes and pose similar environmental and health problems. Although the quantities of chemicals disposed of by individual households may be small, the number of households in Minnesota are many, and the amount of waste adds up.

Program managers and operators

Program managers and operators of household hazardous waste facilities collect, manage, and properly dispose of hazard wastes from households. They are also responsible to ensure that the facilities are in compliance with environmental and worker protection laws and regulations.

To prevent or reduce household hazardous waste, ensure compliance, and protect public and environmental health, the MPCA provides assistance for program managers and operators.
