Minnesota GreenCorps is now accepting applications from individuals interested in serving as a Minnesota GreenCorps AmeriCorps member. Minnesota GreenCorps members gain valuable skills and job experience in the environmental field while giving back to the communities in which they serve.
What will I do?
The MPCA may place up to 28 full time members with various host sites for the 2012-2013 year, including one member at the University of Minnesota – Morris. Members serve in one of the four following project areas:
- Energy Conservation
- Waste Prevention and Recycling
- Living Green (includes local foods and complete streets)
- Green Infrastructure (includes forestry and stormwater)
Member activities include but are not limited to: education and outreach to people of all ages on environmental topics, mobilizing volunteers, implementing sustainability-related projects, collecting, benchmarking and analyzing data, measuring environmental results, field work, working with local officials and community members, and much more. When and where will I serve?
Minnesota GreenCorps members serve with organizations across the state. Sites may include cities, counties, park districts, school districts, universities, and non-profit organizations. In the application, you can select areas of the state you are willing to accept a service assignment. The host site selection process will be completed this spring, and sites will be discussed during the member interview process. All service positions are for 11 months beginning in mid to late September 2012 through August 2013. Members must complete 1,700 hours, which equates to around 40 hours per week.

Minimum qualifications
- Must be a minimum of 18 years or older.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or a lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S.
- Must not have a criminal history that precludes the applicant’s ability to work with vulnerable populations, such as the youth and elderly.
- Must be able to make a commitment to complete 11 months of service.
- Education: A two-year Associate of Arts degree or completion of sophomore year in a four-year college program is required. A four-year college degree with a major or significant course work related to environmental protection or other relevant aspect of the Minnesota GreenCorps program is preferred.
