Biomass
As of August 2008, Minnesota had about 40 permitted biomass facilities, most of which burn some form of wood. However, other materials such as oat hulls and corn cobs may also be combusted at some facilities. There are many facilities in Minnesota that are capable of using various forms of biomass to produce energy. Recent rising fuel costs have made biomass fuels more cost-competitive, and concern over greenhouse gas emissions has also increased the interest in using fuels from biomass.
