DISPERSE Program

The MPCA has developed an iterative modeling program called DISPERSE (Dispersion Information Screening Procedures for Emission Risk Screening Evaluation). DISPERSE uses the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s new AERMOD dispersion model to generate atmospheric dispersion factors to estimate worst-case air impacts. The current version only does stacks/vents (point sources). DISPERSE prompts the user for modeling information, similar to EPA’s SCREEN3 model.

DISPERSE is iterative in that a user may enter as much information as is readily available or as needed. When specific site information is not available, default values are assumed. The DISPERSE utility may be run with minimal stack and building information or it can be run with detailed facility-specific BPIP (Building Profile Input Program) files.

The DISPERSE utility generates two types of files. The summary report provides dispersion factors for various receptor distances. The summary figures visually depict dispersion factors surrounding a facility for 1-hour, 3-hour, 8-hour, 24-hour, monthly and annual averages for maximum values.
