Informational Health Fair addressing health and environmental issues of concern to Fridley residents

Saint Paul, Minn. — At this event, sponsoring agencies and organizations will provide opportunities to interact with representatives and scientific experts and ask questions about health and environmental concerns.
 
People attending the event will be able to visit “stations” where they can get information on various topics, including:

  • History and current information for each of the Superfund sites in Fridley.
  • The testing and regulation of drinking water systems in Minnesota, and measures taken to protect the safety of drinking water.
  • The way cancer is tracked in Minnesota communities, and the process for evaluating health concerns associated with hazardous waste sites or other environmental hazards.
  • Steps individuals can take to protect their health.

Time: 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012 [Note change from previously announced time of 4-9 p.m.]

Participants:

  • Minnesota Department of Health,
  • Minnesota Pollution Control Agency,
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
  • City of Fridley,
  • Anoka County Public Health,
  • American Lung Association,
  • Mercy and Unity Hospitals Wellness Program, and
  • Virginia Piper Cancer Institute.

Background: The Health Fair is being held to address health and environmental concerns expressed by Fridley residents. The primary objective of the event is to give Fridley residents an opportunity to address their concerns directly to agency representatives.

While agency representatives will be available for media interviews, the primary focus will be on making agency staff available to answer questions from the public.

There will be no formal presentations.
