Marshall, Minn. ― A public comment period continues through May 16 on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for a proposed sanitary sewer extension in the Worthington industrial park. The city proposes a 1,000-foot extension of an existing, 24-inch-diameter sanitary sewer in BioScience Drive, from U.S. Highway 59 to serve industrial park development on the west side of the highway.
The industrial park development will cover about 130 acres of a potential area of about 705 acres. The project also includes construction of turn lanes for BioScience Drive along Highway 59, water main extension, rerouting county ditch 12, a new box culvert under Highway 59, and stormwater and flood mitigation ponds. Construction is expected to begin this summer.
The EAW, prepared by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, is available on the MPCA’s EAW webpage.
Written comments on the EAW should be sent to Charles Peterson, MPCA, 520 Lafayette Rd. N., Saint Paul, MN 55155-4194, or by email to charles.peterson@state.mn.us. Comments will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on May 16. They will be used in evaluating the potential for significant environmental impacts of the project.
Comments must include:
1. a statement of your interest in the EAW;
2. a statement of the action you wish the MPCA to take, including specific references to sections that you believe should be changed; and
3. the reasons supporting your position, stated with sufficient specificity to allow the MPCA commissioner to investigate the merits of your position.
