What Can I Do to Save Energy and Money? Stop by the Eco Experience at the Minnesota State Fair

Contact: Pamela McCurdy, 651-757-2559

Come to the Eco Experience at the Minnesota State Fair to see the latest technologies in energy efficiency. Whether you want to remodel, build a new home or pick up tips for saving energy. You’ll be inspired and motivated by the knowledgeable experts and in-depth exhibits the Eco Experience has to offer.

The typical Minnesota homeowner could reduce energy use by up to 40% through a combination of conservation and efficiency measures. The best way to start saving energy is to know your present energy use and opportunities to reduce use.

Thinking about a home energy audit? See demonstrations of the tools used by home energy auditors including a blower door and an infrared camera to show you areas where energy – and money—can be saved.

Experts will be on hand to discuss funding opportunities for energy home improvement including rebates, tax incentives, programs for low-income households, and competitive loans from the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency.

Did you forget to program your thermostat or turn off the lights before you left home? There’s an app for that. See demonstrations on how you can manage your home’s lighting and thermostat through the iPad.

The Passive House, built by North Dakota State University students, is the ultimate energy-efficient building. It requires very little energy for heating and cooling and can save up to 90 percent in heating costs. It’s so efficient it doesn’t even have a furnace.

You will also see the best Energy Star appliances and specific tips on how to use them in our Green Crossings area. Stop by to see appliances and learn how small actions can really add up when it comes to appliance use in the home.

Each day we’ll have different themes in the Eco Experience building. August 25 is Save Green $ and August 28 is Save Energy. Be sure to check out the Sustainability stage on these days for informative presentations on saving energy and money.
