Visit the Eco Experience at the Minnesota State Fair to Find Renewable Energy Options for Projects Big or Small

Contact: Pamela McCurdy, 651-757-2559

St. Paul, Minn. – Harnessing energy from the sun and wind has been around for centuries. Newer design and technologies are making renewable energy more readily available for homeowners and businesses. Small-scale or large-scale project experts will be on-hand to help answer your questions about incorporating renewable energy projects in your home. The Eco Experience will feature the latest innovative designs, practical products and fun gadgets on renewable energy.

New this year, located in front of the building, is a combination solar photovoltaic and solar thermal tracking unit. The tracker follows the path of the sun in order to maximize solar energy production. Also in front of the Eco Experience building you can see how water is heated and used at the solar hand-washing station or learn how light from the sun generates electricity to move water in a solar water fountain.

Be inspired by local high school students who competed in the annual Solar Boat Regatta. The Solar Boat Regatta is an event that focuses on solar design while exploring green jobs. Two of the 2011 winning solar boats will be on display. They are City Academy of St. Paul and Roosevelt High School of Minneapolis.

Green Crossing, an innovative community design concept, will feature solar-powered carports with charging stations for electric vehicles. You can also see a glimpse of eco-friendly transportation options.

A small-scale wind tower and solar charging station will help you see the science behind harvesting wind energy. Be sure to stop by the Wind Energy Center to talk with professionals about planning and financial incentives for wind. Climb inside a replica wind turbine tower and learn how this technology helps power homes and businesses

Each day we’ll have different themes in the Eco Experience building. August 28 is Save Energy, September 1 is Green Jobs and September 2 is Grow Green. Be sure to check out the Sustainability stage on these days for informative presentations on harnessing energy from the sun and wind and how you can find a job in the renewable energy industry.
