Saint Paul, Minn. -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is seeking comments on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet for proposed improvements to wastewater infrastructure in Hopkins, St. Louis Park and Minneapolis. A public comment period for the EAW began Oct. 18 and will run through Nov. 17, 2010.
The proposed improvements include reconstruction of a pump station at Lake Street and Blake Road in Hopkins, as well as construction of a new sanitary sewer pipeline and rehabilitation of the existing stretch of pipeline. The project would increase the capacity of the pump station from 6 million gallons per day to 6.3 million gallons per day. The EAW is posted online at www.pca.state.mn.us/news/eaw/index.html and may be viewed at the MPCA’s St. Paul office.
An EAW is a preliminary environmental review that examines how a proposed project might affect the environment. The MPCA will use comments on this EAW to evaluate the potential for significant environmental effects from the project and to determine if an Environmental Impact Statement, a more comprehensive environmental review, is needed.
Comments on the EAW should be submitted in writing by 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 17, 2010, to Debra Moynihan, MPCA, 520 Lafayette Road N., St. Paul, MN 55155-4194, by e-mail to debra.moynihan@state.mn.us, or by fax to 651-297-2343. Questions may also be directed to Ms. Moynihan.
All comments must be submitted in writing, and should include a statement of the commenter’s interest in the EAW, a statement of the suggested action the MPCA should take, including references to specific sections, and specific reasons supporting the position. Late comments will not be considered.
