Brainerd, Minn. — The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has prepared an Environmental Assessment Worksheet for a proposed expansion of the Paul and Connie Magedanz Farm, south of Richmond, Minn., in Stearns County. Citizens are invited to comment on this EAW in writing, until Aug. 11, 2010.
The proposed expansion will include construction of a dairy barn above a reinforced concrete manure pit, a barn covering a compost bedding pack, an open lot for heifers and dry cows, and a lined basin to catch runoff from the feed storage pad and open lot. After construction, the maximum number of dairy cattle for the entire operation will be 1,786 dairy cattle and 200 dairy calves, for a maximum of 2,540 animal units.
The EAW is a preliminary environmental review looking at how a proposed project could potentially affect the environment. Comments on the EAW should be submitted in writing by 4:30 p.m., on Aug. 11, 2010, to Charles Peterson, MPCA, Environmental Review, 520 Lafayette Road N., St. Paul, MN 55155-4194, by e-mail to charles.peterson@state.mn.us or by fax to 651-297-2343.
The MPCA will use the comments on the EAW to evaluate the potential for significant environmental effects from the project and determine if an Environmental Impact Statement (a more comprehensive environmental review) is needed.
Copies of the EAW are available for review at:
