Saint Paul, Minn. ― Families attending the Minnesota State Fair are invited to explore new games and kid activities at this year’s Eco Experience. Fair goers can learn how a 4,000 year old tree ring can hold information about the climate, become a scientist for a day and explore how to make plastics from plants, or test their skills with the Water Skee game where they’ll learn some simple ideas to protect Minnesota’s lakes and streams.
The kids’ area at the Eco Experience is specifically designed for kids and their parents. Kids can play and discover their ecological footprint through games and giant puzzles, while the parents take a break from all the fair activities in comfortable chairs.
Back by popular demand is the Eco Challenge. Fair goers can travel through the building and gather stamps to learn about local foods, clean water, saving energy, reducing waste and more. They can then measure their results on the Eco Scale and see how their decisions affect emissions of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Eco Challenge participants can win a free prize.
Families can also check out the Tesla Roadster, the all-electric, high-performance sports car that can go from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds or the Mitsubishi i-MiEV plug-in electric vehicle. The i-MiEV is being introduced to the U.S. market this fall.
The Eco Experience Sustainability Stage will feature family-fun entertainment with performances by Tricia and the Toonies, Sewerman, and storyteller Katie Knutson, and educational events such as the best places in Minnesota for family bicycle vacations.

The Eco Experience is the largest environmental event of its kind in the country in the last two decades. Since 2006 more than 1.5 million visitors have attended the 25,000 square-foot exhibit to learn more about clean air and water, saving energy, climate change, healthy local food, transportation, green building and remodeling, and other ways to lead more eco-friendly lives.
