St. Paul, Minn. - The 2009 Governor's Awards for Excellence in Waste and Pollution Prevention were presented yesterday to 18 organizations. The annual awards program honors superior environmental achievement by Minnesota businesses, nonprofits, local governments and private institutions. "These organizations have found innovative and resourceful ways to reduce waste and pollution, often increasing efficiency and lowering costs at the same time," Governor Tim Pawlenty said. The awards recognize outstanding environmental success in three categories: business/nonprofit, government and partnerships. The winning projects were selected by three independent panels of judges with a broad range of environmental expertise. Twenty-nine applications were submitted for the Governor's Awards.
