Enforcement Actions Total More Than $1 Million in First Quarter of 2009

St. Paul, Minn. -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) concluded 33 enforcement cases totaling $1,082,714 in penalties during the first quarter of 2009. The cases occurred at facilities in 30 counties throughout Minnesota. The following is a brief summary of all 33 cases completed during the first quarter of 2009:
-- $776,000 - United Taconite LLC, Eveleth, for air quality violations.
-- $60,000 - University of Minnesota, Rosemount, for asbestos violations.
-- $52,500 - Rolling Green, Inc., Arnie Esterbrooks, RL Larson, and LaTour Construction, St. Cloud, for stormwater violations.
-- $40,000 - North Star Beef, Buffalo Lake, for water quality and hazardous waste violations.
-- $30,000 - Toro Company, Bloomington, for air quality violations.
-- $10,000 - AB Mauri Foods Inc., Hutchinson, for water quality violations.
-- $10,000 - RIE Coatings Inc., and Meyer Commercial Inc., Eden Valley, for solid waste violations.
-- $9,000 - Life Time Fitness, Eden Prairie, for hazardous waste violations.
-- $8,500 - Andersen Corporation, Bayport, for air quality violations.
-- $8,250 - Riley Bros. Construction, Morris, for asbestos violations.
-- $7,460 - Heartland Corn Products, Winthrop, for water quality violations.
-- $7,000 - David Wilson, Preston, for solid waste violations.
-- $6,562 - Kesteloot Enterprises, Marshall, for solid waste and hazardous waste violations.
-- $5,758 - Neuhof Hutterian Brethren, Mountain Lake, for solid waste violations.
-- $5,750 - John Blume, Nicollet, for feedlot violations.
-- $5,100 - Release Coatings of Minneapolis, Bloomington, for air quality violations.
-- $4,794 - ConAgra Grain Processing Company, Hastings, for air quality violations.
-- $4,750 - Sahrside Dairy Inc., Bricelyn, for feedlot violations.
-- $4,125 - Dunaway Construction and Minn. Dept. of Natural Resources Forestry, Cook County, for stormwater violations.
-- $3,600 - Alexandria Light and Power water treatment plant, Alexandria, for water quality violations.
-- $3,500 - Spring Prairie Hutterian Colony Inc., Hawley, for feedlot violations.
-- $3,500 - Thull Construction, Roseville, for asbestos violations.
-- $2,925 - Carlson Arbors Development, Ryan Contracting, and The Arbors, Chanhassen, for stormwater violations.
-- $2,475 - Bunge Construction Inc., Preston, for solid waste violations.
-- $2,250 - Dover/Eyota/St. Charles Area Sanitary District and Whitewater River Regional wastewater treatment plant, St. Charles, for water quality violations.
-- $2,035 - Superior Industries LLC, Morris, for air quality violations.
-- $1,375 - Lake City Septic Service, Lake City, for individual septic treatment system violations.
-- $1,125 - Blair Builders Inc., dba Belair Excavating, New Brighton, for stormwater violations.
-- $720 - Bruce Meyers, Austin, for solid waste violations.
-- $660 - Anchor Glass Container Corporation, Shakopee, for air quality violations.
-- $500 - Randy Wellman Farm, Hanska, for feedlot violations.
