Comments Sought on Proposed Dodge County Hog Facility

Contact: Nancy Miller, 507-280-3590 Rochester, Minn. -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) seeks comments on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) prepared for a proposed Langdon Farms hog facility in Dodge County. Tim and Jen Langdon propose to build a 4,000 head hog finishing barn in Section 32 of Ripley Township. The project would consist of a 102-foot by 324-foot total confinement, power-ventilated barn. The barn would be equipped with a slatted, concrete floor opening to an eight-foot concrete manure collection pit below the barn. The EAW provides basic information about how a proposed project could potentially affect the environment and helps determine whether an Environmental Impact Statement, a more comprehensive environmental review, is needed. Interested parties may comment on the EAW during the public notice period, which began Monday, May 5, and continues until Wednesday, June 4. Written comments must be received at the MPCA St. Paul office by 4:30 p.m. on June 4, 2008. Copies of the Langdon Farms Hog Facility EAW are available at:
