MPCA to Hold Public Meeting on Proposed Air Permit for Leef Services

Media Contact : Mark Sulzbach, 651-296-7768 Technical Contact: Amrill Okonkwo, 651-296-7009 Saint Paul, Minn. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) will hold a public information meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 31, to explain the proposed air emission permit for Leef Services, Inc. located at 212 James Ave. N., in Minneapolis, Minn. The meeting will be from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Harrison Recreation Center located at 503 Irving Avenue N. It will give the public the opportunity to ask questions about the draft air emission permit proposed for this facility. The public comment period for the draft permit began Dec. 29, 2006, and will continue through Feb. 14, 2007. Public comments must be in writing. Leef Services owns and operates an industrial laundry that cleans printer towels, shop rags and restroom towels. The company has applied to the MPCA for an air permit because all facilities that emit certain types and amounts of air pollution are required to do so. The permit contains a wide range of requirements including use of a new type of washer and a taller exhaust stack, both of which will help reduce air emissions in the community. The company's proposed permit will need to be renewed in five years. Draft documents for the proposed permit can be found online at/news/data/index.cfm?PN=1 and looking under, 'December 29, 2006.' For additional questions or comments about the permit, contact Amrill Okonkwo of the MPCA at 651-296-7009 or by e-mail at amrill.okonkwo@state.mn.us.
