Enforcement Actions Total Just Under $350,000 in First Quarter of 2007

St. Paul, Minn. - The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) concluded 32 enforcement cases totaling $324,204 in penalties during the first quarter of 2007. The cases occurred at facilities in 18 counties throughout Minnesota. Occasionally enforcement actions include Supplemental Environmental Projects in lieu of paying the MPCA a monetary penalty. In the first quarter of 2007, there was one such case where the company paid a small penalty and agreed to spend $37,500 on an SEP. Carl Bolander & Sons Inc., of St. Paul agreed to spend $12,500 to excavate asbestos-contaminated soil from a nearby private property. They will also spend $25,000 during the next six months on an internal asbestos inspection training program for its employees at about 50 work sites. The following is a brief summary of all 32 cases completed during the first quarter of 2007:
· $75,000 - Minnesota Department of Transportation & Granite McCrossan, Minnetonka, for stormwater violations.
· $39,750 - Carl Bolander & Sons Inc., St. Paul, for asbestos violations.
· $32,453 - Gary Hiniker; Hiniker Homes Inc., Mankato, for stormwater violations.
· $13,000 - Salo Manufacturing, Menahga, for hazardous waste violations.
· $12,500 - Long Prairie Packing Co., Long Prairie, for feedlot violations.
· $11,758 - Northern Township, Bemidji, for water quality violations.
· $10,000 - Epic Development LLC; DSV Construction Inc., Eagan, for stormwater violations.
· $10,000 - Brenny Custom Cabinets Inc., Sauk Rapids, for hazardous waste and air quality violations.
· $10,000 - City of Chatfield, for water quality violations.
· $10,000 - Emerald Ventures Inc., Jackson Township, for water quality violations.
· $10,000 - EnviroTech Remediation Services, St. Cloud, for asbestos violations.
· $9,625 - Mid-State Recycling Services Inc., Pine River, for solid waste violations.
· $8,250 - Gonyea Companies; Peltier Preserve, for stormwater violations.
· $7,500 - Baxter Town Center LLC; Anderson Brothers Construction, Baxter, for stormwater violations.
· $6,840 - City of New Munich, for water quality violations.
· $6,350 - Gale Torstenson Farm, Dawson, for feedlot violations.
· $6,200 - North Pine Aggregate, Askov, for water quality violations.
· $6,175 - Michael Christianson Farm, Rochester, for feedlot violations.
· $5,750 - Comfocare Good Samaritan; Hansen Hauling and Excavating, Austin, for stormwater violations.
· $5,750 - Robert Engstrom Co.; Glenn Rehbein Co., Maplewood, for stormwater violations.
· $5,750 - Dave Syverson Truck Center; Bob Braaten Construction, Rochester, for stormwater violations.
· $4,900 - Randy Dyrdahl, dba Dyrdahl Lumber, for solid waste violations.
· $4,450 - Billman Construction, Duluth, for stormwater violations.
· $4,160 - New Century Country Homes LLC; Glenn Rehbeinn Co., Maplewood, for stormwater violations.
· $3,600 - Anchor Bay Mobile Home Park, Baudette, for wastewater violations.
· $3,500 - Frattalone Companies Inc., St. Paul, for asbestos violations.
· $3,100 - Steve's Septic Pumping Services Inc., Duluth, for individual septic treatment system violations.
· $2,000 - John Gross and Kevin Dunaway; Deer Train Acres, Columbia Township, for stormwater violations.
· $1,850 - Victor Yerbich, dba Vic's Septic Service & Excavating, Bemidji, for individual septic treatment system violations.
· $1,543 - Michael Christianson Farm, Rochester, for feedlot violations.
· $1,500 - Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, Duluth, for water quality violations.
· $950 - Halvorson Excavating Inc., Belgrade, for individual septic treatment system violations.
