New Learning Resource Center and Library Opens at the MPCA

Contacts: Laurie Gustafson, 651-215-0230 Jeanne Giernet, 651-215-0232 Kathy Malec, 651-296-7719 Saint Paul, Minn. - On Nov. 29 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is hosting an open house for the new Learning Resource Center and Library located on the first floor of its St. Paul office at 520 Lafayette Road North. The Learning Resource Center and Library is open to the public and provides information and assistance on a variety of environmental issues. Come to the open house for a tour of the new space and resources, join a scavenger hunt to win prizes, learn how landfills are constructed by making a luscious layered landfill, and get some low-waste holiday gift giving tips. You'll also find tables made from recycled paper and junk mail and chairs that were reused and reupholstered with Eco-Intelligent fabric. The new space is large, friendly, resources are more accessible, and Learning Resource Center staff is always ready to assist visitors. The goal of the Learning Resource Center is to support environmental education in Minnesota, and to develop citizens' environmental literacy by providing outreach materials. Visitors and callers will find fact sheets, posters, displays, learning kits, videos, and curriculum available at no cost or for loan. While the Library collection focuses on information needs for MPCA staff, is also open to the public for in-house use and through interlibrary loan. With the merging of the MPCA and the Office of Environmental Assistance, agency leaders saw an opportunity to bring together the Education Clearinghouse and the Library to create the new Learning Resource Center and Library. The mission of the MPCA is to work with Minnesotans to protect, conserve, and improve our environment and enhance our quality of life. For more information, visit www.pca.state.mn.us.
