Comments Sought on Proposed St. Michael Sewer and Street Improvement Project

Media Contact: Jennifer Groebner, (651) 296-7706 Technical Contact: Jessica Ebertz (651) 296-8011 St. Paul, Minn. - The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) seeks comments on an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) prepared for proposed sewer and street improvements in St. Michael, Minn. The draft EAW will be open for public comment until 4:30 p.m. on May 10, 2006. The city of St. Michael proposes construction of new sewer lines, a storm sewer, a water main, a lift station as well as street improvements. The project encompasses 30th Street N.E. and County Highway 35 from LaBeaux Avenue N.E. to Jamison Avenue N.E. The project addresses anticipated wastewater transport needs for St. Michael for the next 15 years. The construction should begin in early spring 2006. The majority of the work should be completed this fall and all work should be completed by summer 2007. The EAW, a preliminary environmental review looking at how a proposed project could potentially affect the environment, is open to a 30-day public review and comment period. Comments on the St. Michael 30th Street N.E. sewers and lift station EAW should be submitted in writing by 4:30 p.m. on May 10, 2006, to Jessica Ebertz, MPCA Regional Division, 520 Lafayette Road N., St. Paul, MN 55155-4194, or by fax to (651) 297-2343. The MPCA will use these comments to evaluate the potential for significant environmental effects from the project and decide if an Environmental Impact Statement (a more comprehensive environmental review) is needed. Copies of the St. Michael 30th Street N.E. sewers and lift station EAW are available for review at: 7 The MPCA's St. Paul office, 520 Lafayette Rd.
