Technical contact: Barbara Conti, (651) 296-6703 Media contact: Barbara Skoglund, (651) 296-6706 St. Paul, Minn. -- An Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for a proposal to construct an interceptor and expand sanitary sewer service to southeast Monticello for existing and future development is available for public review and comment March 14 through April 13, 2005. Monticello is a growing city located in northeastern Wright County, approximately 50 miles from the Twin Cities. The city of Monticello proposes to install a 4,430-foot, 36-inch pipe extension that will connect to the existing sewer near Fallon Avenue and Chelsea Road. Wastewater will be directed to the Monticello Wastewater Treatment Facility. The new sanitary sewer line will replace an existing lift station and eventually serve recently annexed areas of the city. Construction is expected to begin in May and be completed by October 2005. An estimated average of 3.1 million gallons per day will flow though the expanded sewer. Depending on future development, the city is anticipating future upgrades to the wastewater treatment facility. Additional environmental reviews may be needed as future phases are proposed. An EAW prepared by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency describes potential impacts on land, water and air quality. Citizens can review and offer comments on the EAW during the 30-day comment period. The MPCA uses these comments to evaluate further the potential for significant environmental effects and to decide if an Environmental Impact Statement (a more comprehensive environmental review) is needed.
