Enforcement Actions Total More Than $230,000 In Third Quarter Of 2005

St. Paul, Minn. -- The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) concluded 25 enforcement cases totaling $233,835 in penalties during the third quarter of 2005. The cases occurred at facilities in 17 counties throughout Minnesota. Occasionally there are amendments to past enforcement actions if a company has continuing and/or recurring violations. There were two such amendments to Stipulation Agreements during the past quarter. Both amendments were to 2004 agreements with the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railroad, for a combined $71,875. The new penalties resulted from air quality violations caused by dust emissions at docking facilities in Duluth and Two Harbors. · $40,000, Centex Homes, Inver Grove Heights, for stormwater violations.
· $24,000, Dynamics Design and Land Company, Big Lake, for stormwater violations.
· $20,000, Bay Side Recycling, Duluth, for hazardous waste, solid waste and stormwater violations.
· $10,000, City of Farmington, for stormwater violations.
· $9,275, Bonanza Grain Inc., Caledonia, for water quality violations.
· $6,800, Minnesota Correctional Facility, Moose Lake, for hazardous waste violations.
· $6,500, American Crystal Sugar Company, East Grand Forks, for water quality violations.
· $5,500, Todd & Gordon Johnson, Fergus Falls, for feedlot violations.
· $4,550, Industrial Finishing Services, Deer Creek, for hazardous waste violations.
· $3,668, Riverside Services, Fridley, for hazardous waste violations.
· $3,500, Unimin Minnesota Corporation, Kasota, for air quality violations.
· $3,400, Sappt Cloquet LLC, Cloquet, for air quality violations.
· $3,000, David Beer, Cook, for solid waste violations.
· $2,900, AGCO Corporation, Jackson, for hazardous waste violations.
· $2,850, Associated Milk Producers Inc., Dawson, for air quality violations.
· $2,800, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, for hazardous waste violations.
· $2,700, A & E Metal Finishing Inc., Brooklyn Park, for hazardous waste violations.
· $2,362, City of Lismore, for water quality violations.
· $2,080, Tiger Excavating Inc., Burns Township, Anoka, for individual sewage treatment system violations.
· $1,575, Ryan Bandy-Bandy Excavating and Trucking, Credit River and Spring Lake Township, for individual sewage treatment system violations.
· $1,500, Avon Body Shop, Avon, for air quality violations.
· $1,500, Auto Body Center, Rochester, for air quality violations.
· $1,500, Midland Research Center, Nashwauk, for air quality violations.
